Why Young Living?
When I first heard about Young Living essential oils, I didn't understand why they were more expensive than the ones I picked up at the store or online at Amazon. Those other brands of essential oils smelled great, but I didn't know that they were not of a therapeutic grade and often contained additives and synthetics. I’ve tried a dozen different brands of essential oils and none compare to the quality of Young Living’s essential oils -- plus they have numerous proprietary blends and oils that are not carried by other distributors.
I first heard of Young Living through a yoga and essential oils workshop I attended in the summer of 2016. I started tinkering around with those store bought oils and doing my research. At the time, I was between jobs and put off ordering my Young Living Premium Kit and signing up for Essential Rewards until after I got a job. I was reluctant to become a member at first because there was no way I would end up spending 50PV (roughly $50) a month on essential oils... It didn't take me long to sign up for Essential Rewards as I started replacing all of my beauty and skincare products in addition to household cleaners and other health and wellness products. Now, 50PV is no big deal as I no longer have to spend lots of money on a monthly basis for the products that I am now making at home.
One of the things that first stuck out to me about Young Living about, and why I ultimately chose them over other brands, is their Seed To Seal process. They are the ONLY company in the world that owns their own farms to grow their own crops with no chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Every other company, buys their product at some point which concerns me... especially with the current state of affairs in our crazy food/drug industry. Other oils on the market are purchased from third party growers in foreign countries where they give 2nd, 3rd, and even 4th distillations whereas Young Living only gives 1st distillations so their oils are way more potent and provide many more therapeutic benefits. How a company distills their oils is very important.
Most essential oils in the market have been produced as “fragrance grade” meaning they are used for aromatic purposes. Did you know that a company can write 100% pure essential oils on a label, but only actually use 5% of inferior essential oil and then fill the rest of the bottle with synthetics and chemicals that can irritate or burn your skin? If you physically can't go walk onto the farms and distilleries where your oils are grown and harvested and tested and distilled and tested again and THEN bottled - then stay far far away from them.
Many essential oils on the market have expiration dates and Young Living oils do not. Properly stored 100% pure essential oils (excluding citrus) won't ever go bad and will last indefinitely if properly stored away from heat and sunlight. If an essential oil has an expiration date, it isn't pure or has been cut with a carrier oil which will eventually go rancid which is why those oils are required to have an expiration date.
The Young Living community is amazing. We are here to educate on essential oils and health and wellness through their application - whether it be through inhalation, topical application, or ingestion. Please not that not all essential oils can be ingested safely and some you just wouldn’t want to use that way.
What are Essential Oils?
Essential oils are organic compounds extracted from plants that have therapeutic properties. They can be found in the plant’s flower, stem, leaves, roots, grass, bark or fruit. The chemistry is extremely complex and may consist of hundreds of different and unique chemical compounds. This is what gives each oil its unique attributes and characteristics. The oils are also the "lifeblood" of a plant. They protect the plant from disease, provide nutrients and help fight off anything it doesn't want! It keeps the plant (or tree, fruit, bark, root, etc.) healthy and functioning at its best!
Essential oils should smell exactly like the plant they come from – nothing more, nothing less. Often, companies will add things like vanillin to make them smell sweeter. Do your oils smell like a plant or a dessert? If it says 100% pure but it smells sweet, chances are something else has been added. This means that the therapeutic properties are either decreased or nonexistent.
Essential oils are NOT the same as vegetable and/or olive oils. Vegetable oils are obtained from the fatty parts of a plant like the nuts, seeds or kernels and are greasy. They can also go rancid over time. Young Living’s essential oils do not go rancid or expire. In the essential oils world, we refer to the kitchen oils (olive, coconut, avocado, grape seed, etc.) as carrier oils since they are often used to dilute the potency of therapeutic grade essential oils when applying to your skin.
Young Living’s essential oils do the following: -reach every cell in your body within 20 minutes when applied topically to the body -eliminate toxins in your body -regenerate DNA -have the capability of passing the “blood-brain” barrier -work on emotions via the limbic system of your brain when inhaled -release emotional trauma, relax and clear the mind -transport nutrients to starving human cells -act as powerful antioxidants -increase atmospheric oxygen -remove toxins in the air -increase ozone and negative ions in the area which inhibit bacterial growth Anytime you hold a bottle of Young Living powerful essential oils, you are holding the pure essence of health-promoting botanicals that can be diffused, inhaled, applied topically, incorporated into massage, taken internally to inspire a positive emotional state, enhance your physical wellness, purify your home, refine your skin and create deep spiritual awareness.
Three methods of use are topically, aromatically, and internally. Young Living Essential Oils can be applied directly to the skin - always remembering to check your labels for dilution instructions. - - Some oils need to be diluted with a carrier oil (coconut oil, grape-seed oil, organic olive oil, V6 oil, etc.) while others can be applied directly on the skin with no dilution (referred to as “neat.”)
I love using oils on my feet - it’s a quick and efficient way to get oils into your system. I also wear essential oils as perfume and to lift my mood. - Oils can also be inhaled directly from the bottle, or by using a diffuser. This is actually the quickest way for your body to use the oils. And your house will smell amazing.
Lastly, because of Young Living’s therapeutic grade of oils, there are many oils that can be taken internally as a dietary supplement. You can add oils to your water, or even into a capsule. The Vitality line is clearly labeled for this use. The EOs from Young Living are all therapeutic grade oils that can be diffused, applied topically or sometimes even ingested. So I use them for basically everything in our home and I am obsessed with them.

SAFETY INFO: Essential oils sure are powerful and because of that, we want to make sure you learn how to properly use them if you haven’t before. Take a look at this great overview about essential oil safety and remember that the content of this website is intended to be used with Young Living Essential Oils only.
Learn to love your labels: Each bottle of Young Living essential oil is wrapped in a colorful label full of important information. On the front of each bottle, you’ll find the oil name and grade. All Young Living oils are 100% pure, therapeutic grade, which is the highest quality essential oil on the market. You will also see the bottle size printed under this information (most come in either a 5ml or 15ml size). The back of the label (peel up if needed) will give you directions on how the oil can be used – aromatically, topically, and/or as a dietary supplement. Not all essential oils are recommended for all three types of use, so reading and adhering to the information printed on the bottle is important! Young Living just released its Vitality line of oils meant for ingestion and will eventually transition all of the non Vitality oils to be topical/aromatic only.
Within these directions will be suggested dilution ratios. This simply means that it is recommended to mix the essential oil with a carrier oil (your choice of vegetable oil like coconut, jojoba or grapeseed) before applying or ingesting it. You will also see a batch number stamped on the back of every bottle – that’s right, every single bottle! As part of Young Living’s commitment to quality, they are able to track each bottle back to the batch it was produced from should there ever be a concern.
Actions and reactions: If you know you are allergic to lavender, it probably isn’t a wise decision to use lavender oil – make sense? Now this doesn’t necessarily hold true for everyone and every oil. Due to the distillation process, proteins (what usually causes an allergic reaction) are generally absent from the essential oil minimizing the chance of allergic reactions. The essential oil of a plant may come from a different portion than what triggers an allergic reaction for a specific individual. For example, lemon oil is obtained from the rind and not the flesh of the fruit. Some people may be allergic to lemon no matter what, but others may have no reaction to the essential oil because it comes from a different part of the plant. If you know you have an allergy to a certain plant but are wanting to try the essential oil, consult with your doctor before testing a small amount on a nonsensitive part of your body (like the back of your hand).
Nut allergy information: Be aware that several of Young Living’s blends and products contain nut oils. You can always contact Young Living directly for an up-to-date ingredients list of any product.
Oils and medications: Most of the time, essential oils are perfectly safe to use even if you are taking another medication. However, there are some instances in which essential oils like grapefruit may interfere with prescribed medication. If you are taking any prescription medication, it is strongly recommended to consult your healthcare provider prior to the use of any essential oils to check for possible contraindications. Be sure to inform your health care provider that our citrus oils are made from the rind vs the juice.
Safety with children: Many of us have children and are excited at the possibility of using essential oils with our beloved little ones! Most essential oils are perfectly safe to use with children as long as they are diluted appropriately. Two of our favorite resources on the topic of oils and kids are the books Aromatherapy for the Healthy Child by Valerie Worwood and Gentle Babies by Debra Raybern. You do want to make sure that your essential oils stay out of children’s reach (they can sting and you don’t want them in eyes, little mouths, etc.). There are also a few oils with special child safety caps because they can be dangerous if swallowed such as PanAway due to the wintergreen it contains.
Citrus oil precautions: It is important to take some extra precautions when using citrus oils because of their ability to dissolve certain plastics. This is great if you want to get a sticky label off of a glass jar, but not so great if the lemon oil you put in your water dissolves your cup! The general rule is that citrus oils should only be used in glass or stainless steel containers – no plastics.
Photosensitivity: Certain essential oils are photosensitive. This means they absorb sunlight or radiant energy more intensely than your skin naturally would. You’ll want to check the label of the oil you’re using to see if it contains this warning and avoid the sun for up to 12 hours after application.
Oils & pregnancy: Many essential oils are completely safe to use while pregnant and can provide much needed relief for a variety of pregnancy symptoms. There are some oils that should be avoided during pregnancy, however. The Gentle Babies book mentioned above is a fabulous resource for information about using essential oils while pregnant.
Start slowly: As we said, Young Living’s essential oils are extremely potent and powerful substances. It is recommended to start slowly when you first begin using oils. Choose one oil to try and then build from there. Listen to your body and watch for signs of detoxing. You can usually apply essential oils as needed, but do not overload your system!
Storing your oils: Young Living’s essential oils do not expire, but you do need to take care when storing them. You’ll notice that the bottles are a dark, amber color. This is to keep light from reaching the oils. Even though the bottles are dark, you’ll still want to store your oils in a cool environment away from direct sunlight to preserve the therapeutic properties.
Medical conditions: It is always advised to consult a medical professional before starting any essential oils routine, especially if you have been diagnosed with a medical condition, are taking any prescription medications, or have concerns about your health. The information provided on our site is not intended to replace the advice of your doctor or diagnose any medical condition. Treat essential oils with the care and respect they deserve and exercise your best judgment when using them for a safe, effective experience!

I recommend customizing your order. You can do this every month and get free bonus items depending on how much you spend - these will vary from month to month. Also, based on the amount of PV you spend per month you get 10% PV back for your future orders for the first three months and then it goes up to 20-25% over the next few months.
