Makeup & Materiality is a collaborative photography project with various alternative models and makeup artist and body painter Britt Gen. Together, they have worked on conceptualizing the unique look for each photo shoot based upon extensive research since 2014. Jennifer has studied and experimented with the materiality that is present in the images, as well as the materials used during the photo shoots and in the printing process. She also experiment by using animated images, video, 3D printing and laser cutting. Jennifer prefers her photography to emphasize the use of high contrast, vibrant color whether it be part of the overall look of the model, to the lighting and other post-production effects. Her photography takes a contemporary approach to the use of the human figure and portraiture. She incorporates painterly qualities to her work drawing from her knowledge of subcultural style and art history. Jennifer loves contemporary artwork that blurs the line between fine art and the alternative beauty and fashion industries. Click the thumbnails below to view the slideshows.
